We are announcing the departure of Ross Wortham, our inaugural CEO, and with that our search for a new Chief Executive Officer who will lead WASEC into its next phase of growth and impact. Ross has been an integral part of our organisation, contributing significantly to the advancement of social enterprise in Western Australia over the past 15 months. His dedication, leadership, and vision have been invaluable, and we extend our deepest gratitude for his service and wish him all the best in his future endeavours. As we embark on this transition, the WASEC Board is initiating the search for our new CEO. This individual will be pivotal in steering WASEC towards achieving its mission of building a thriving social enterprise sector in WA. WASEC’s CEO will work closely with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, and partners to drive strategic initiatives, foster member engagement, and secure funding for WASEC’s continued success. Key areas of focus include organisational leadership, public relations and advocacy, member engagement, and business development. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced leader who is passionate about social enterprise, with executive-level management experience, strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to WASEC's vision and objectives, and the ability to lead in a collaborative and adaptable manner. Today the WASEC team, Ross Wortham and Olivia Chapman, celebrated receiving a two-year grant from Lotterywest, alongside board member Dr Vanessa Rauland, Klara Andric MLC and Sven Stenvers Impact Seed Founder and Director. Thanks to Lotterywest and the Government of Western Australia, we’re able to continue our commitment to building a thriving community of social enterprise in WA. Our members use commercial activities to address social issues, support communities, provide jobs and training, and tackle climate change. This grant empowers us to expand businesses in WA that prioritise both people and planet, creating a brighter, more sustainable future for all. Wow, what a week! ✨ WASEC CEO Ross Wortham joined key government and sector leaders in Canberra to discuss the untapped potential of #socialenterprise as a tool for social and environmental innovation. Together they explored how social enterprises can create jobs❤️, provide care for people and planet💚, and address product or service gaps💙, particularly in disadvantaged communities🧡. It was recommended that the Government consolidate its social enterprise initiatives by developing a Commonwealth Social Enterprise Strategy; one: 👉 Powered by a partnership between the Sector, the Government, and others 👉 Underpinned by certification and evidence 👉 That includes social procurement, impact investment, outcome payments, and capability-building It was recommended that the Government invest in and work with the peak to provide a conduit to design, implement and evolve its social enterprise initiatives with the Sector. Before leading the work of SEA, Jess was CEO at Community Resources Limited, one of Australia’s largest jobs-focused social enterprises. Through several environmental repair social enterprises Community Resources has employed hundreds of people who experience barriers to work. Before this, Jess led Green Connect Illawarra which employs young people and former refugees to farm fair food and reduce landfill. We are excited to announce that Olivia Chapman has officially joined the team as WASEC's new Engagement Lead! Olivia has several years of experience in the social impact space. During her time at Nesta, the UK’s innovation agency for social good, she collaborated with Google to deliver large-scale international future-of-work programs positively impacting thousands of people and influencing policy. Since returning home to WA, Olivia has built a climate solutions network and developed partnerships for the Lotterywest-funded Innovative Society Initiative. As a long-time supporter of social enterprises, Olivia is excited to be working with WASEC to grow the sector in Western Australia.
